The use of bamboo in the home provides a more textured look to a room that is slightly different to the look that other types of wood finishes can provide. This carries on to bamboo table lamps that make good use of bamboo as a means of constructing an interesting looking lamp base or, in some cases, as a framework for the lamp shade.
Let’s take a quick look at some of the many different types of bamboo table lamps that are being made or have been made over the years to get a good idea of exactly what effects can be created. Remember, some of these lamps have been handmade using bamboo as the primary material and the results can be quite appealing.
One style of lamp that makes a lot of use of bamboo is the Asian influenced lamps. Bamboo is an important material in Asian culture and a lamp that is made using bamboo may be considered luckier than a lamp that is made from metal. The lamps that comprise the majority of Asian bamboo table lamps generally look very similar comprising a bamboo frame that stretches a rice paper shade in either a pyramid or box shape.
In the case of the Oriental pyramid lamp that is displayed on the left, fine strips of bamboo have been placed together to form a type of mat that gently diffuses the light.
The alternative way of using bamboo, at least in the Western design styles, is to make use of the rounded features of bamboo and either wrap them horizontally around the base or align them vertically to form the stem of the lamp base. In either case the effect is quite dramatic and results in a very practical accent lamp.
We see bamboo regularly used in either large stems where the texture and grain of the bamboo stands out as an obvious stem or, in the case of some of the more detailed pieces, as short, thin stems to create a far more intricate design.
In the case of the fine bamboo pieces, you may find that the bamboo has been woven to the point where it might create a flexible lamp shade or can be wrapped around a more solid lamp base. In the case on the right the bamboo has been woven to form a very attractive patterned appearance that makes for a very stylish looking Hollywood Regency table lamp.

The use of bamboo is a simple way of creating an eye-catching accent piece of furniture in the room. It may be possible to create a very effective bamboo table lamp by simply buying a cheap ceramic lamp base and decorating it with thin
strips of bamboo. The shape and the texture of the bamboo strips can turn an old and tired looking lamp into something far more appealing.
Bamboo can also be used in the simplest possible way to form a lamp that is a little out of the ordinary when compared to other more formal lamp shapes. The lamp that is displayed to the left is an example of a cylindrical bamboo table lamp that is simply comprised of a mat of bamboo that has been rolled into a cylinder form.
